AP Studio Art
Introduction
When i took AP Studio Art as a senior in high school the one thing that I would have benefited most from would have been a list of page of helpful ints. Kind of a what to, and what NOT to do when creating an AP portfolio. So, here is one for those who are taking AP Studio Art now, at least i can help you out, even if this wasn't here for me.
What TO do!
- sketch out lots of possible ideas for your thesis at the beginning of the school year. It is not a good idea to go with your first idea, you need to think and develop your thesis before you start.
- Assess what work you already have done that can be used in your portfolio's Bredth or Quality Sections. You need twelve pieces in your Bredth, and five in your quality section, so keep that in mind and manage your time accordingly if you need to add to those sections.
- Create a timeline for the school year, AND STICK TO IT!! If December is fast approaching and you are still on painting number three or four, YOU ARE IN TROUBLE! Plan out your time at the beginning and it will help keep your stress level down later on!
What NOT TO do!
- #1 ABOVE ALL, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Fight the urge to put off the paintings just because they aren't due till April.
- Do NOT pick a subject for your thesis that doesn't interest you just because someone likes the idea. You are going to be working on this project all year long, so make sure that you are interested in what you are doing!
- Do NOT pick a subject for your thesis that doesn't have a lot of stretch room. Meaning, do not choose a shallow subject; choose something that is going to have a lot of growing room. You want to be able to come up with more than enough ideas for painting, NOT be struggling to find ideas just to get your required twelve paintings for your thesis!
Terms You Might Want To Know...
A.P. Advanced Placement. (this is what the AP in AP Studio Art stands for)
Coherence Unity as a whole.(Make sure that your concentration has this, it will help, OR HURT your grade)
Slide (No, this isn't the kind you play on)Each on of your pieces will need to be photographed and made into slides at a photo store. The only way that your portfolio will be graded is if you follow their format, so make sure that you refer to the booklet for anything that you have questions on!
